Subjective list really from the best manual focus lenses, don't find Leica, Canon, Nikkor or other high price lenses here.Reason is simple no budget to buy all available lens and also no time to cover all areas. This top list comes from my collection and experience with them. I can't say for a lens that is good or wrong if I not tested personally. |

One of the forgotten master pieces, Meyer-Optik produced high quality lenses, but these days people don't know about anything that. I have almost all Meyer and Carl Zeiss Jena lenses and I tell you guys, Meyer products same high quality lenses than Zeiss.

I guess this lens was one of the biggest pleasant surprise in my experience. I bought this lens because was incredible cheap around 2 EUR on flymarket. Seller told me this a Tessar clone, I didn't believe it at all. I can tell you this one of the best lens in my collection (see how many I have in gallery).

I testes this lens same time than Micro Nikkor-PC 55mm f/3.5 so we can compare them in same lighting environment on same subjects. I found CZJ Tessar is very close for Nikkor ! This pleasant result not bad at all from a general purpose lens. I like everything on Tessar optical and built quality, focusing etc. I didn't find any weakness, especially good the front lens position it place so deep in lens body. This means hard to touch and make finger print on lens what is common problem with other lenses. Quite common lens, easy to grab from local camera shops and from remote sources like Ebay. If you need a cheap, but quality lens this lens a very good choice. |

I was shocked when I tested Carl Zeiss Jena Olympic Sonnar 180mm f/2.8.It has outstanding image quality, so I tried to get more rare 300mm f/4 version. I was disappointed after first test, this is good lens , but not comparable with 180mm Olympic Sonnar.

This great lens was the highest quality standard lens on Praktica body.This time getting more and more popular,because pretty sharp even at wide open and it has nice "bokeh" and good color rendering.For "reverse mount" macro shooting the best choice you able to make incredible magnification with Pancolar 50mm f/1.8 lens. For example a head of fly can be 1:1 life size macro etc.
